ACI Concrete Field Grade 1
Testing Technician Certification

This is a two day program.  Day 1 (Saturday, 8a-2p) consists of a classroom review session lasting 6-8 hours and hands on practice.  Day 2 (Thursday, 2:30p-8p) consists one hour written and performance (hands-on) exams. The package price includes the review and hands-on practice, the exams, all certification fees and the ACI workbook for this program. 

A Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed concrete.

Scope and Knowledge

The program requires a working knowledge of the following ASTM test methods and practices.

• C1064/C1064M - Temperature of Freshly Mixed Hydraulic-Cement Concrete

• C172 - Sampling Freshly Mixed Concrete

• C143/C143M - Slump of Hydraulic-Cement Concrete

• C138/C138M - Density (Unit Weight), Yield, and Air Content (Gravimetric) of Concrete

• C231 - Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Pressure Method

• C173/C173M - Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Volumetric Method

• C31/C31M - Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

ACI Certification programs are ADA compliant.

Individuals with disabilities requiring special accommodations must contact the ACI Certification Department for further information on how to proceed. ACI CERTIFICATION EXAM PPE REQUIREMENTS

In order to maintain a safe and injury-free environment for all examinees and examiners and to comply with the safety requirements of the companies and facilities who are kind enough to host our certification exams, use of the following Personal Protective Equipment is mandatory while performing tests in the laboratory area:

• Safety glasses or goggles with side shields
• Work clothing, including long pants and boots
• Non-absorbent, concrete resistant gloves

Hard-hats, safety vests and hearing protection are not required inside the laboratory building but are required in the yard and plant areas so all examinees should have them available, if needed. 

The National Capital Chapter will provide non-latex gloves and may have a limited number of safety glasses available but if examinees do not have or do not wear the required PPE, they will not be allowed to participate in the performance portion of the exam unless properly equipped.
